Lets start your SolidWorks Tasks
Drawing the Upright Piano
Your first task is to draw an upright piano. Starting with the back part of the piano. If you get stuck or want to ask any questions please post them on the blog or on the twitter account.

The back part of the piano
First open your solidworks package and click on new part.
Above is the start of the back part of the piano. The length of the shape is 1300mm and the height is 1100mm. *make sure the measurements are in millimetres.
Next extrude the part by 500mm.
Below is a video recapping how to draw the back part of the piano.
(Video made by myself)
Adding the keys
Draw a rectangle to put the keys onto using the dimensions of length 1300mm and breadth 140mm. Extrude the rectangle by 20mm. Save the rectangle calling it 'underneath part of keys'.
Now open a new document and start drawing the keys. Below is a picture with all the keys lettered.
As you can see from the picture above the notes on a piano repeat therefore to draw the notes you will need to group the first 3 together. As all piano's start with the note C, we are going to group CDE together and draw them.
**All measurements are in millimetres
The measurements for C below.

**All the drawings of the notes are extruded by 10mm
Measurements of D
Measurements of E
All the flat notes ( the black note on the keys) on the keyboard are all the same size, therefore we will only need to draw it once when drawing it on solidworks. Below are the measurements for the Flat note.
As on a piano the flat/ sharp is higher than the rest of the notes it therefore will need to be extruded by 20mm. When extruded you can use the fillet tool and shape one end by 5mm, as shown below.
Now mate the notes together.
Firstly mate the note C and a flat note together. Next mate the note D to the flat. Followed by another flat then the note E. Your assembly should look like the picture below.

As the rest of the notes, FGAB, are the same as CDE all you need to work out is which notes are the same so that you don't have to redraw the notes again. Use the picture below to help you see what notes are the same size and which notes mate together.
When you have all notes mated together, CDEFGAB, save the mate as, 'set of notes'
